We were appointed by Broxtowe Borough Council to provide evidence and deliver design review workshops to inform sustainability appraisal work and to help secure greater public buy-in for housing.

The team provided heritage advice and evidence in support of appraising reasonable alternatives for site allocations. Our multidisciplinary Design Review Panels were involved in a number of workshops, providing design support and advice on sites within Broxstowe with potential for residential development.

Site Design Advice Notes were produced following a series of workshops with Broxtowe Borough Council. The workshops involved setting up a panel with a range of disciplines which included urban design, landscape architect, highways and conservation working with the planning authority, landowners, agents to:

• Identify key issues for resolution and development;
• Agree a set of design principles for the site in an illustrative form; and
• Set out an indicative schedule of follow-on work that will need to be undertaken should this site be developed.

The workshops provided an opportunity to gain expert design advice at the site allocation stage, support local plan work, provide a clear steer for developers and improve the quality of the built environment.
