Design:Midlands has created a Local Design Review Panel for Hinckley & Bosworth, working with the Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council Local Planning Authority and developer communities to ensure high quality, sustainable design that embraces the characteristics of the area.

Design Review is beneficial in a number of ways, bringing a breadth and depth of experience that may not be available to the project team or to the Local Planning Authority and helping to improve the design of a scheme to make it function better and be more user-friendly.

Chris Brown, Assistant Director Planning and Regeneration for Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council said: “We are delighted to be working with Design:Midlands who will bring together an independent design review panel to help us to ensure that the quality of developments in the Borough is enhanced as new schemes come forward. Engaging with developers early in the process allows us to make the administration of the planning procedures for the right schemes more efficient. It helps us to make appropriate use of processes for assessing and improving the design of a development and fulfil our obligation to the National Planning Policy Framework.”

Julie Tanner, Chief Executive of Design Midlands said: “Over the past fifteen years Design Midlands has worked with regional and national design professionals and experienced officers within local authorities to develop a more strategic approach to driving quality design and placemaking.  Design review will be undertaken by our independent, impartial, multi-disciplinary panel which provides constructive and expert advice at the pre-application stage of a scheme and we are very pleased to be working with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.”

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council joins other local authorities in working with Design Midlands in this way, including Nottingham City Council, North East Derbyshire District Council and Newcastle under Lyme Borough Council.

The first design reviews take place this month and developers wishing to book a design review can do so simply by submitting a request on the Design:Midlands website here: https://www.designmidlands.org/design-review-form/
