Design:Midlands is the charity in the Midlands that manages independent design review and design support services. We work with local authorities, developers and communities in the East and West Midlands providing expert design advice, training and support.
Our Panel of independent design experts are critical to our work providing advice, knowledge and best practice to achieve developments that are both beautiful and functional, and which, as a result enable communities to live healthy, socially rich, economically productive lifestyles with minimal impact on the environment.
Design: Midlands is recruiting Panel members to join the Design:Midlands Review Panel (DMRP).We are looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals who are passionate about places, who want to promote best practice and thrive working in a multi-disciplinary environment. We are looking for people who live or work in the Midlands and are representative of the communities in which we work.

The aim of the DMRP is to provide independent, professional advice, evaluation and highlight examples of best practice. A Design Review Panel is an independent and impartial Panel of built and natural environment experts who assess the design of a proposal. A DMRP report is provided to design review participants as advice. The DMRP’s aim is to improve the quality of buildings and places for the benefit of the Midlands public.

An honorarium fee plus travel expenses is provided for attending site visits and a design review panel.

In particular, we are interested in the following;

  • People working in architecture, landscape architecture, ecology, urban design/masterplanning/contextual and heritage townscape, environmental sustainability, civil/structural/hydrological engineering, planning, transport planning, social value and development/viability delivery.
  • Senior local government designers who have led on successful regeneration and new community development.
  • Design Code expertise.
  • Women and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Groups. (BAME): and
  • Community facilitators.

Candidates from other relevant fields are also encouraged to apply.

  • Your CV with two references, outlining your skills and expertise.
  • A covering letter outlining your interest and motivation in joining the Panel, where you live and work (geographical location) and details of any previous design review experience.
  • A headshot photograph and short biography of 200 words with credentials summarising your expertise, and how you would like to be represented on our website if successful.
